Design Matters

Designers are the unsung heroes of the blogosphere. Their work allows users to express a character, theme and personality with their blogs.

We created The Style Contest to enable the design community to indulge and explore the contribution their expertise makes to the quality of blogging tools and the user experience and then to reward them for it. The Style Archive was created to provide a permanent home and gallery for the designers who contribute so greatly to all of our blogs — both directly and indirectly.

The Organizers

The Style Archive is the culmination of months of hard work volunteered by the following members of the Movable Type community:

Arvind Satyanarayan

Arvind SatyanarayanArvind Satyanarayan has primarily been our codemonkey for this site creating the submission form, style browser and various other bits and pieces for the cogs to turn. Arvind is a student living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is an active member in the Movable Type community having written several plugins including MT Blogroll, MT Protect, InlineEditor and The Style Generator. Arvind also publishes Movalog - All Things Movable Type.

Jesse Gardner

Jesse GardnerJesse Gardner is the design force behind The Style Contest website. He created the look-and-feel of the site and has been the chief advocate for the design community in the planning of the contest. Jesse mans the helm at Philly-based PlasticMind Design and talks nerdy at Movable Tweak. When he's not whipping up pixels, Jesse blogs here and argues about things here.

Elise Bauer

Elise BauerElise has been focused on the editorial aspects of the contest, and playing in-country, in-state front-woman for Arvind and Jesse. Elise Bauer advises technology companies on their business and marketing strategies, and is currently a partner at the Pacifica Group consultancy in Livermore, CA. Her clients over the last 18 years have included Apple Computer, Symantec, Warner Music Group, Seagate, and a host of technology start-up companies. In her spare time Elise publishes Learning Movable Type, a tutorial blog for beginners to Movable Type, and Simply Recipes, a popular cooking and food blog.

Six Apart

Byrne ReeseIn addition to the work of volunteers Arvind, Jesse, and Elise, Six Apart has generously provided the resources needed, in both management time and money, to help make the style contest a reality.

Byrne Reese

Byrne Reese is our chief "cat herder", creating and following through with a myriad of organizational details. Byrne is the primary point of contact for the contest. Questions regarding the contest that are not already answered on the site should be directed to thestylecontest@sixapart.com.
